Odisha tops the list for food and nutrition


Following Odisha are Uttar Pradesh, Andhra Pradesh and Gujarat in the states in the general category, while in the special category comprising the Northeastern states, Himalayan states and the Island regions, Tripura is followed by Himachal Pradesh, Sikkim and Nagaland.

This ranking is generated by data provided by states on their food distribution and public processes, which is important to ensure that no one goes hungry.

The ranking, based on the food and security index, was created for the first time. A similar exercise will be carried out every year.

It was released by the Union Minister for Consumer Affairs, Food and Public Distribution, Piyush Goyal at the Food Ministers conference on the subject. ‘Food Security & Nutrition of India’.

State Ranking Index ‘according to the National Food Security Act (NFSA)

“The index has been developed with the goal of creating an environment of competition, cooperation, and interstate learning; states learn from each other their best practices while addressing serious health problems. food security and hunger,” Goyal said.

The ratings will also help create transparency in the system for publishing standard and reliable data in the public domain to the public, the government said.

The conference also saw presentations from multiple states on their best practices.

Goyal criticized the states that abstained from participating in the conference, practically or almost, and said: “It shows that the states are not serious about the important issue of food security.”
