“OMG Klopp really has the backbone”, “It’s finally happened”

Liverpool Online fans were stunned after the management Jurgen Klopp made a tactical edit to the game against Rangers at the UEFA Champions League on October 4.

The German strategist chose an extremely brave and attacking-minded starting lineup. Klopp has named Darwin Nunez, Mohamed Salah, Diogo Jota and Luis Diaz in the starting XI for the first time this season.

Liverpool’s starting line-up for the game against Rangers can be seen below:

The presence of four attacking players means Klopp has finally moved on from his traditional 4-3-3 formation after the Reds’ poor start to the season. The players Klopp has selected show that Liverpool can start with a 4-4-2 or a 4-2-3-1.

The change of tactics went well with Reds supporters on Twitter. Some fans have come to believe that Klopp ultimately decided to change things up in the hope of a better outcome. Here are a few tweets about that:

@LFC @RangersFC WOAHH Klopp changes our squad to 442..? !! 😱🤯🤯Can’t wait to see the best Jota & Nunez combo, I’ve been waiting to see something completely different like this!! 🔴💪💪

@LFC @RangersFC KLOPP HAS CHANGED THE MODEL! OH MY DAY FINALLY HAPPENED😭😭

It is worth mentioning that the midfield used to be a weak position for the Red Devils in the early stages of the 2022-23 season. Due to the injury of the existing midfielders, Klopp was forced to bring in players like James Milner on the pitch. This did not go down well with supporters.

However, the former Borussia Dortmund coach decided to use only two centre-backs in the match against Rangers. He replaced the third midfielder with an attacking option.

The new squad could see Nunez and Jota play up front as two forwards, with Diaz and Salah providing support from the flanks.

The Red Devils were also only able to secure a 3-3 draw against Brighton & Hove Albion in the Premier League at the weekend. They are currently 9th in the standings, earning only 10 points from their opening 7 matches.

How have Liverpool performed in this season’s UEFA Champions League?

Liverpool have made an average start in the 2022-23 UEFA Champions League. They opened the group stage campaign with a 4-1 defeat at the hands of Napoli of the Italian Serie A team.

The Reds beat Ajax 2-1 in their final Champions League game in September. However, they needed a late Joel Matip goal to get their first win in the group stage.

Jurgen Klopp’s team is currently second in the rankings with 3 points, equal to Ajax. Rangers, meanwhile, are bottom of Group A after losing both of their opening two Champions League games.
