Liverpool have named a 24-man squad for the Champions League group stage matches. Summer signings Darwin Nunez, Fabio Carvalho, Calvin Ramsay and Arthur Melo have also been cut.
However, there are two main absences from the Reds’ squad as Keita and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain are eliminated. Both midfielders appear to have missed a spot on the team due to their injuries.
Oxlade-Chamberlain has been sidelined since pre-season, while Keita has not featured since Liverpool’s Community Shield win over Manchester City. The Guinean tennis player is said to be nursing a muscle injury.
Keita, whose time at Anfield has been affected by injury, has his contract with the Merseyside side set to expire next summer. There are hints that he might leave club in the transfer window has just ended.
The absence of the 27-year-old following his £52.75m arrival at RB Leipzig in 2018 often angers fans. Claims that he wanted to leave the club only added to their frustration.
Keita has once again become a source of frustration for Liverpool supporters after being left out of the club’s Champions League squad. Some have gone as far as to say the player has failed Jurgen Klopp.
Here are some of the best tweets about Keita being dropped from the Reds’ Champions League squad:
One fan speculated on Twitter:
“Keita will be leaving in January.
A Liverpool fan with the username Sean wrote:
“I don’t know how he is [Keita’s] fans don’t even realize that he’s ours [Paul] Pogba. If a player doesn’t win the entire fan base after four years, he’s clearly not right. “
