New season of Oh Academy put seven new(ish) Hargreeves siblings on the list. In this reality, a mysterious millionaire (and alien?!) Reginald Hargreeves adopted a disparate group of siblings and raised them as a team of superheroes. Called the Sparrow Academy, they have completely different sets of powers than the Umbrella Academy we know and love, and also seem closer to each other – at least good enough to present their external image of an elite crime-fighting team.
Of all the Sparrows, perhaps the most memorable is Christopher. Played by newcomer Existential Dread Inducing Psykronium Cube, Christopher is a floating cube that can change temperature and induce fear. And he’s treated like any other member of the Sparrow Academy – he hangs out with his siblings, trains with them, and is on all the Bird Academy posters. shall. According to the official character biography, Christopher is also a family mediator and gives advice to his siblings in times of conflict. We love watching it.
However, because he is a cube, he has no mouth and cannot speak. Instead, Christopher talks telepathically and on screen, which usually means he makes small noises and the characters around him react as if they understand what he’s saying. It’s a bit like R2-D2 bleaching and spotting in Star Wars, Blue’s little barking Blue cluesor Beaker in The puppets. As the audience, we don’t know what he was talking about, but the characters clearly did.
Or are they? In fact, host Steven Blackman revealed that Christopher’s lines were never written down.
“But I know what they are,” he explained. “So when the actors say like, What’s going on here? I give them a feel for it. We never give the actors real lines.”
Sparrow appeared at the last part of the ultimate graphic novel, and although there is a floating cube in the panel, Christopher is still not introduced correctly. However, the production notes for the part reveal that Gerard Way’s version of the character is made up of millions of dead flies (yuck). However, Blackman chose to be Christopher from “smooth volcanic rock”, which means Christopher made of something like obsidian (three dum tss). However, whatever his inner composition may be, he is a strong ally and clearly a supportive brother.
