Ontario reports 1,184 new COVID-19 cases, no new deaths

Ontario reported 1,184 new COVID-19 cases on Sunday, bringing the total number of cases in the province to 623,497.

It marked the third day in a row that the number of cases was above 1,000 but the total number of hospitalizations and ICU capacity remained stable.

Of the 1,184 new cases recorded, data showed 557 unvaccinated, 22 partially vaccinated, 536 fully vaccinated, and 69 with unknown vaccination status.

According to Sunday’s report, 152 cases have been recorded in Toronto, 96 in Simcoe Muskoka, 88 in York, 86 in Windsor-Essex, 81 in Peel, 56 in Halton area and 54 cases in Ottawa. All other local public health units reported fewer than 50 new cases in the provincial report.

The death toll in the province stands at 10,024 as no more deaths have been reported.

As of 8 p.m. Saturday, more than 11.2 million people had been fully immunized with two doses, which is 87.3% of the population 12 years of age and older. More than 800,000 people received a third booster dose. The coverage of the first dose is 90%.

For young children aged five to 11, coverage of the first dose has been 19.3% – 208,658 doses out of a total of more than 1 million eligible children – since the shots were introduced last week. .

More than 62,000 doses of the vaccine have been administered in the last 24 hours.

Meanwhile, 605,358 Ontario residents are reported to have recovered from COVID-19, representing about 97% of known cases.

Active cases in Ontario currently stand at 8,115

The government said 31,735 tests were processed in the previous 24 hours. There are 11,423 tests currently under investigation.

Test positivity reached 3.2% on Sunday.

Ontario reports 140 people in general hospital wards with COVID-19 with 164 patients in intensive care units and 146 patients in ventilator intensive care units.
