Ontario reports 959 new COVID-19 cases, 7 more deaths
Ontario is reporting 959 new COVID-19 cases on Thursday, as the number continues to grow weekly. The total number of provincial cases is now 620,229.
By comparison, last Thursday saw 748 new cases and the previous Thursday 711 cases. All three Thursdays had similar test volumes in the 30,000 range.
Of the 959 new cases recorded, data showed that 446 were unvaccinated, 23 were partially vaccinated, 429 were fully vaccinated, and 61 had unknown vaccination status.
According to Thursday’s report, 118 cases have been recorded in Toronto, 91 in Windsor-Essex, 75 in Peel and Simcoe Muskoka, 59 in Ottawa, and 53 in York. All other local public health units reported fewer than 50 new cases in the provincial report.
The death toll in the province rose to 10,012 as seven more deaths were reported.

Meanwhile, 603,285 Ontario residents are reported to have recovered from COVID-19, representing about 97% of known cases. The number of resolved cases increased by 770 cases compared to the previous day.
Active cases in Ontario now stand at 6,932—up from the previous day at 6,750 and up from November 25 when it was at 5,552. At the height of the second coronavirus spike in January, active cases reached just above 30,000. In the third wave in April, active cases topped 43,000.
The seven-day average has now reached 851, up from the previous week’s 692. A month ago, the seven-day average was around 375.
The government said 38,480 tests were processed in the previous 24 hours – the most in a single day since early October. There are 17,333 tests currently under investigation.
The positive level of the test reached 2.9%. Last week, the test’s positivity was 2.6%.

Hospitalization in Ontario

Provincial officials note that this new dataset with immunization status for hospital admissions will grow and improve over time as more information is gathered. There may also be differences due to how and when information is collected for both.
