Orioles picks high school SS Jackson Holliday as #1 in MLB Draft
The Baltimore Orioles High school’s Jackson Holliday picked Sunday night with the overall #1 pick in the 2022 MLB Tournament.
Holliday Polish .685 with 17 home runs and 79 RBIs in 40 games last season for Stillwater High.
The son of former major track and field athlete and seven-time All-Star Matt Holliday, Jackson was named American Baseball Player of the Year and 2021-22 Gatorade Oklahoma Baseball Player of the Year. .
A 6-foot-1, 175-pound left-handed athlete, Holliday demonstrates strength on the plate while still growing in this frame. With a professional pedigree, he will look to grow his game at Oklahoma State, where he is committed to playing for his uncle, manager Josh Holliday.
“Growing up around it has always been an important part of me playing baseball,” Holliday told the Oklahoman in May. “Going to the clubhouse since I could walk is how it started.
“I guess so, it’s just my blood. I love to play and I love the game.”
