The OSBI Cold Case Unit submitted Bnkinggna’s DNA to Parabon Nanolabs in March 2021, according to a news release. Authorities said the lab returned results with possible genetic matches in August 2021.

OSBI staff have contacted relatives who can request a DNA sample to compare with Bnkinggna’s sample.

The press release said agents were recently told that the comparisons had matched and Bnkinggna’s family was informed that she had been identified.

“We are thrilled to be able to reunite Katrina with her family,” OSBI Director Ricky Adams said in a statement. “Although it took 27 years to make the news, we are constantly working to identify Katrina.
