Following possibly the longest post-Oscars week in history, the winner of best picture by Siân Heder CODAwhose victory was perhaps overshadowed by other events at the ceremony, will return to UK cinemas
Apple has revealed that the film makes its history – sweeping through all the categories for which it was nominated, winning best supporting actor for Troy Kotsur and best adapted screenplay for Heder. – will be re-released in UK cinemas in a limited number of theaters, starting this Friday, April 8. Open captions will be made available to the deaf and hard of hearing.
The comeback follows a similar move in the United States, where CODA will be shown in limited numbers in more than 600 theaters.
Following 17-year-old Ruby (Emilia Jones), the only hearing member of a deaf family, CODA broke several records during the awards season, becoming the first feature film with a predominantly deaf cast to receive the SAG Award for Outstanding Performance by a Cast in a Motion Picture. At this year’s PGA Awards, the film became the first film with a predominantly deaf cast to receive the Darryl F. Zanuck Award for Outstanding Producer of a theatrical Motion Picture, recognition produced Philippe Rousselet, Fabrice Gianfermi and Patrick Wachsberger. Kotsur is also the first deaf actor to ever receive an Academy Award, a BAFTA Award, a SAG Award, an Independent Spirit of Film Award and a Critics’ Choice Award for his performance in the supporting actor category. .
CODA written and directed by Heder, produced by Vendôme Pictures and Pathé, with Rousselet, Gianfermi, Wachsberger and Jérôme Seydoux as producers, and Ardavan Safaee and Sarah Borch-Jacobsen as executive producers.
