Our predictions for the February 2023 Nintendo Direct

What is that, you say? Will have other Nintendo Direct? Awesome Scott! This is heavy…

Correct, Nintendo is back with another showcase focus on games launching in the first half of 2023. Well, most of… Hello, Prime Minister 4. Hello… Express yourself. Please?

The live presentation will take place on February 8, 2023 at 2pm PT / 5pm ET / 10pm GMT / February 9, 2023 at 9am AET.

Of course, at Nintendo Life, we all just love to make predictions, if only so we could build unrealistic expectations for ourselves and end up drowning in despair… Star? Never mind. Either way, Alana, Jim, Gavin, and Ollie all have their own thoughts on what Nintendo might show, so let’s dive into…

More specific details about Zelda: Kingdom Tears

Live Prediction 2
Image: Nintendo

Alana Hagues (Scriptwriter) – I’m pretty confident that Tears of the Kingdom will be available in person, but Nintendo will keep everything under wraps. I think some new footage, maybe a new mechanic or two, and then a trailer for an April-focused Live is Nintendo’s little gift to us for being so great. patient. Early.

Jim Norman (Scriptwriter) – A small indie game like Tears of the Kingdom showing up at the big Nintendo Direct? Has the whole world turned upside down? must have anything else here right? Small trailer, explanation of new mechanic, official artwork other rather than one of the Sky Links sullenly gazing into the distance. It will only be small, but there will be something.

Ollie Reynolds (Scriptwriter) – I think Kingdom Tears has to be shown here, since it’s coming out in three months? That’s crazy… That said, I don’t think it’s going to be a huge stream of information; I assume we’ll have a pretty big gameplay trailer, but Nintendo will likely want to delay and give the game its own Live showcase a little closer to the May launch date. .

Gavin Lane (Editor) – *plays short TOTK* “Please look forward to learning more about the world of The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom in March with our The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom live broadcast.

An appropriate disclosure and release window for Pikmin 4

Live Prediction 6
Image: Nintendo

Ollie – I definitely hope to see Pikmin 4, but at the same time, I don’t think I’d be surprised if it didn’t show up. At most, I think we’ll probably get a small trailer with a ‘Holiday 2023’ release date attached.

Jim – I wouldn’t bet on getting a proper reveal for Pikmin 4 – last time we just got a glimpse of a sleeping Bulborb and everyone lost their minds, so who says they need what more to do?

Alana – I really think we will get some Pikmin 4. I don’t think it’ll be out in the first half of this year, but the Direct is “primarily focused on #NintendoSwitch games launching in the first half of 2023.” So you know, it’s not impossible. I feel lucky.

What’s in store for Pokémon Scarlet and VioletDLC’s?

Live Prediction 7
Image: The Pokémon Company

Jim – I can see the Pokémon Company standing on the sidelines. Pokémon day is coming where I’m sure all will be revealed, why compete with all the other news at Live when you can have the “we’re fixing our game!” title all to yourself?

Alana – Well, we are still waiting for a patch for the game. But I think Pokémon will just get a small trailer that says “stay tuned on February 27” or something like that. Scarlet & Violet was revealed during last year’s Pokémon Day broadcast, so I think some DLC will also be announced.

Ollie – There’s no doubt that Scarlet and Violet will be getting some DLC soon, but whether it’ll show here or not is another story. It’s likely that the Pokémon Company will want to delay until Pokémon Day later this month for any major announcements. I also wouldn’t be surprised if the company’s DLC plans were pushed back a bit to make the game more stable..? I know it sold a lot, but Nintendo doesn’t consider me the type of publisher that ignores such widespread negative reception.

Gavin – Yes, this show will be broadcast separately at the end of the month.

Will we finally – Final — watch Metroid Prime 4?

Live Prediction 3
Image: Nintendo

Alana – I really don’t think so, and if we did, it would be another trailer and that’s it. I’m sorry, everyone. But I’m always ready to be proven wrong.

Gavin – I would say no, but is the Metroid Dread DLC too far fetched?

Ollie – Oh my gosh, I Actually hopefully we’ll see something from Metroid Prime 4 here… It’s about time, you know? But then, my hopes and dreams don’t necessarily match my realistic predictions, and I’m afraid we probably won’t see anything from Retro Studio’s latest attempt at the show. this introduction. It hurts to say it, but here we go.

Jim – I predict one of those very polite “we’re sorry, but you’ll have to give us a little more time” messages that Nintendo is so good at. Maybe we’ll see some artwork or a trailer to move on, but I can’t see this Morph Ball rolling any time soon.

A new 2D/3D Mario title to be announced?

Live Prediction 4
Image: Nintendo

Alana – Here’s another one that I think, to be honest, no. I think adventure The sequel is complete at this point, so the next Mario game will be something new. I think we’re so close to a potential successor that the next Mario game will be a multi-generational launch title for the new system.

Jim – Oh what will I give this one! Six months ago I said this was happening without a doubt, but now… Mario is a new console launcher if you ask me (hint hint, Nintendo). I wouldn’t be surprised if we had some sort of rework or reboot at the moment (I’d lose my mind if galaxy 2 heading to Switch) but the time for an original game has yet to come.

Gavin – I anticipate Mario content (I know, press stop), but I’d be surprised it’s a new platform at this stage in the Switch’s life. Perhaps a port, though what’s left? Super Mario Land 3D Chic?… Wait, that’s a great idea. Felix wants mario party DLC board, people want more striker mario material. I don’t see any new main Mario.

Ollie – I want a new Mario game announced, it’s blooming ages since we had an original title! There are still those who think a game will come out in time for the upcoming Movie, but… no, I don’t believe it, not when the movie itself is only two months away. That’s not to say a new game won’t be announced, but I think it will likely be in line by the end of the year.

Which port, if any, should be visible?

Live Prediction 8
Image: Nintendo

Gavin – If we go back to the Wii Kirby game, I’ll get a Extra epic yarn Luxurious. And if we go back to the Wii U, I’ll get a Yoshi’s Wool World High end, too. All my other port hopes are smaller scale indies. i will still love FTL to come to Switch however that is unlikely to happen.

Alana – If this is supposed to be Nintendo’s “quiet year”, then I can see the second half of the year getting some ports. Are not Strict a port, but these Baten Kaitos Rumored remake would fit here, right? I’m not sure I’ll end the year with more Zelda portals. Hey, maybe Vampire Survivors will make the leap — it’s definitely an indie title big enough to make a splash in the main Live.

Jim – I honestly think this is going to be a Nintendo festival from start to finish, showing us all that it has a lot more planned for the year than TOTK. Then again, that’s Prime Minister Metroid Remaster that has sure been sitting on the shelf for years now, right??

Ollie – Twilight Princess HD And The Wind Awakener HD. Boom, here we go. Oh, and the first Metroid Prime. And Difficult SSX.

Which third-party games will be featured? Will we get any demos?

Live Prediction 9
Image: Square Enix

Alana – With Team Asano already consistent, I’m waiting for a Octopath Traveler II Demo will release tomorrow. Kirby’s Return to Dream Land Deluxe You can also get a small pre-release demo! And oh my god, I’ll say it and trip over my fingernails again— silk song. A trailer. Window. Anything else.

Jim – I really, really want to see some star sea at this one (maybe even have a release date on it). The hype is real for this game, so it makes sense to bring it to the big stage. Maybe there are also some Vikings on Trampolines. I’m obsessed with owl boy again at the moment and need to see more from the D-Pad Studio team…

Gavin – Alana said Silksong. We had an alarm for that.

Ollie – I think Octopath Traveler II is pretty close to being made available for this rollout, and yes, we’ll probably get some sort of demo before launch. Besides, it would be nice to have some more Evil inhabitant love from Capcom! However, with no more cloud games left, give us the original PS1 trilogy or something like that; that would be sweet.

Wildcards / One more thing…

Live Prediction 10
Image: Nintendo’s Life

Ollie – Nintendo’s big “one more thing” announcement for this rollout, if it’s not Metroid Prime 4 or the new Mario, it’s probably going to be something silly, like… I don’t know, Nintendo Switch Music or something. Of course, it would be nice to get more support for Nintendo Switch Online… Maybe Game Boy or Game Boy Advance?

Jim – “Just one more thing,” announced the narrator as the screen went black. We see the NSO user logo in the top left corner of the image and hear the infamous brrrlling b-ding of a starter GBA. The crowd went wild and I cried.

Gavin – fox starThe 30th will take place at the end of this month. There could be something in there.

Alana – Okay, this is not a “One more thing” message but a “Wow, this doesn’t fit anywhere else and I feel it in my bones” – I think we we will see Wave 3 of Xenoblade Chronicles 3DLC’s. Batch 2 launches in October, and we’ve seen it date in Live September 2022. Batch 3 is out before the end of April and we know almost nothing. I But also thought we would see what was promised DLC story and maybe get a date for that. Honestly, I think the show will end up on TOTK. Unless there’s a big surprise…

Did Nintendo dare to announce a Switch successor?

Live Prediction 5
Image: Nintendo’s Life

Alana – Are not. No way. Not here.

Ollie – No, there won’t be any mention of a Switch successor here, we’re not even entertaining such a concept!

Jim – Nintendo? Resume from Switch? You are pulling my leg!

Gavin – Convert the most Lite OLED.

So yes you have it! Think we’ve missed out on anything? Be sure to let us know in the comments.
