Overnight stay at Fort Stevens

Over the weekend we were able to join Justen’s parents for an evening at Fort Stevens Campground in Hammond, Oregon. Thanks to COVID, we feel like we’ve lost a year doing interesting things with Madeleine, so it’s exciting to be able to start replacing her.

Fort Stevens is located at the northwest tip of Oregon, about 2 hours by car from us.

We chose to drive through Scappoose on our way so we could try a new coffee shop and visit a new Goodwill, surpassing the ones that were on my 101 in 1001 list. We stopped at Goodwill where I found 3 brand new IKEA Flisat shelves for $5 each (they’re usually $15 each, and I’ve been keeping an eye on the girls’ room (it’s weird how about got 2!). I also grabbed her giant Cat & Jack jean shorts and could actually be a boy (but whatever) and this cute Pillowfort ballerina doll The doll was in our little registry for a while before I took it off for more essentials, so finding it for $5 instead of $15 made it hard to put down. via.

We stopped at Church Coffee, where I had a snack with Madeleine in the car while Justen got us iced mochas. As soon as we hit the road again, Madeleine was…disappointed? annoyed? bored? and put her hand in her mouth until she threw up all over. It’s super neat and the first time we’ve actually had to deal with anything like that. We quickly pulled over in her place and tried to clean the car seats as best we could. Justen spent the rest of the trip in the backseat with her because we didn’t like the sequel.

When we arrived at the campsite, Justen’s stepbrother had a fire so we set our camping chairs (including this beach chair which is the best we have for Madeleine lol) and took the mosquitoes away for a while. at the time.

Extra note, Madeleine WAS OBSERVED with the postman. Unfortunately, two days after she discovered that she could watch the mail truck come up our driveway, our neighbor’s dog bit the postal worker and now the truck no longer comes to our house (don’t even make me know how annoying it is to have to drive through our neighborhood post office to a separate post office to pick up our mail). Justen bought her this little USPS truck on Amazon, and she’s obsessed.

Madeleine went for a walk with Justen’s mother and found a few treasures – a small pine cone (which she still calls pie-co!) and a small flower. I love watching her

These little curls make me melt.

When we put Madeleine in the sand, she LOST HER MIND (not in a good way). She refuses to be put down and is NOT excited about the sand. We changed her into her shoes and she immediately took them off and didn’t stop until we got her off the beach.

Madeleine slept very well that night. I didn’t, because I forgot to bring a pillow to put between my legs when I slept, and without that my hips hurt REALLY bad. I toss and turn all night, but Madeleine sleeps like a log.

The next morning, we had breakfast and then went for a walk around the campsite. While standing on the side of the road letting a car pass, I looked down at Madeleine and behind her on the ground I saw FOUR LEAF LOVERS! I’ve never found one in my life, so it seems like a REALLY BIG FEMALE. Madeleine also found a small pine cone (pie-co!) that she loved to carry… and stuff it into her mouth.

back to her happy place

I found this random coin that was washed away by the tide and brought it home believing it might be just a cent cooler in 2017 or something. It accidentally went to wash and there was still sand stuck to it, so only time will tell.

My child is very photogenic.

We have to explore the Peter Iredale shipwreck a bit! The ship ran aground in 1906 and parts of it are still visible. Here’s a pretty interesting article that explains it and has a picture of what the full ship looks like. That’s bananas to think about.

After the beach, we returned home. We stopped at two new Goodwills (making a total of 3 new Goodwills we visited for my 101 list!) and had coffee (another one for my 101 list!).

I told Justen that the next time we go, we need to stay two nights because there is so much we can do and still have to do. Hope to have more adventures and go to the beach with my family <3
