Paris shooting suspect has a ‘pathological hatred of foreigners’ | Gun Violence News

The Paris prosecutor’s office said the 69-year-old “always wanted to kill migrants or foreigners”.

The suspected attacker is believed to have caused the death shoot three Kurds in Paris admitted “hatred of foreigners has become morbid”, French officials said.

Since the burglary at his home six years ago, the 69-year-old has “always wanted to kill migrants or foreigners,” the Paris prosecutor’s office said on Sunday.

He set out on Friday morning with the aim of killing migrants or foreigners and then killing himself, prosecutors added.

He killed three people outside a Kurdish cultural center and wounded three others, before being disarmed and subdued by one of the wounded victims.

The suspect, believed to be a former train driver, was arrested at the scene and transfer to mental care on Saturday. Its name has yet to be revealed.

If he is released from psychiatric care, he could face charges of racially motivated murder, attempted murder and weapons offence.

Anger in Paris

The shooting in the bustling Paris neighborhood shook angered the Kurdish communityraises concerns about hate crimes at a time when far-right voices are emerging in France and across Europe.

On the morning of the shooting, the suspect first brought the weapon to the Paris suburb of Saint-Denis – which is crowded with migrants – with the aim of killing foreigners, but then he changed his mind, the Prosecutors said he told them.

He abandoned his plan when only a few people were there and went to a Kurdish center near his parents’ home in the city’s 10th district.

He opened fire on a woman and two men there, before entering a Kurdish-run hair salon across the street and shooting at three men. One of the injured men in the hair salon stopped him and held him until police arrived, the prosecutor’s statement said.

Many in the Kurdish community have expressed anger at French security services, saying they did too little to stop the shooting.

The suspect, believed to be a gun enthusiast with a history of firearms offenses, was released on bail earlier this month, telling investigators he did not know his victim and describing all “non-European foreigners” are his enemies.

He was arrested with his gun, 4 magazines with a total of 14 bullets, and a box containing an additional 25 bullets. He wanted to use up all his ammunition and kill himself with the last shot, the prosecutor’s office said.

On Saturday, members of the Kurdish community in France and anti-apartheid activists came together for a mournful and angry protest.

While the gathering was largely peaceful, with marchers holding portraits of the victims, some young men threw objects and set some cars on fire, and police fired tear gas to disperse crowd.
