PeaceCorps recommends black volunteers who they can be called N-Word by Ukrainian refugees
If you are Black and thinking of volunteering to help the people of Ukraine – beware. MTO News learned that the Peace Corps website explains that Blacks are likely to face rather blatant and dangerous forms of racism from Ukrainian refugees.
This morning, the Peace Plants website stated the following:
Volunteer Voices: “People of color face many challenges living in Ukraine, as a Peace Corps Volunteer. However, African-Americans will face much more complex issues. For modern-day regions of Ukraine, African-Americans are part of communities and everyday life. However, there are many Ukrainians who have never seen a black person before. Their understanding of African-American culture is fueled by African media and stereotypes. You will generate a lot of interest and curious glances.

The site continues:
“It’s not uncommon for Ukrainians to call African-Americans”[N-Word]”. Black volunteers can be called ‘a monkey’ or can watch kids games with Blackface. Being aware of the history of de-humanization for people of African descent can help see where this comes from; it doesn’t justify it.
