PEI COVID Update: Two new deaths

Prince Edward Island is reporting two new deaths related to COVID-19 in its weekly provincial dashboard update.

Health officials said the deaths involved:

• a person between 60 and 79 years old

• a person 80 years of age or older

HOSPITAL

There are 36 people hospitalized with COVID-19, up 18 from last week, 3 of them in the intensive care unit. Of the total cases, 17 were hospitalized for COVID-19, and 19 tested positive on or after admission.

UPDATE OUTBREAK

There are currently 12 long-term care or community care facilities with outbreaks of COVID-19. These include:

  • Andrews of Charlottetown
  • Andrews of Parkhill
  • Atlantic Baptist
  • Home Beach Grove
  • Burnside Community Care
  • Colville Manor
  • Lady Slipper’s Villa
  • Langille’s house
  • Margaret Stewart Ellis Home
  • Prince Edward’s House
  • Villa Marguerite
  • Whisperwood Mansion

The province is also reporting an outbreak at the provincial correctional center. There are also 32 early childhood care and teaching centers to deal with the outbreak. Of which, 31 centers are open and one is closed.

NEW CASE AND TESTS

The province is reporting 2,229 new COVID-19 cases since last update. There have been an average of 317 new cases in the past seven days on PEI

There are currently 3,165 active COVID-19 cases on the island.

An average of 767 PCR tests were performed daily at the province’s COVID-19 testing sites – 33.9% of them were positive.

The highest rate of new cases has been in people aged 20 to 39 – accounting for 34.3% of cases since the start of the pandemic.
