‘People were jumping out of the way’: SUV nearly hits Vancouver pedestrians, witness says – BC

A Vancouver man said he nearly got hit by a car that drove through downtown Wednesday, hit a tree and nearly hit some pedestrians.

Andrew Pace said he was walking his dog on Pacific Avenue around 11 a.m. when an SUV appeared out of nowhere.

“He’s basically doing laps, one of the craziest drives you can do,” Pace said.

Pace said the SUV was “sold out” before the driver pointed it at him.

“He hit the gas trying to hit me,” he said.

“He flew straight at me. I had my two dogs with me. Thankfully, the curb actually shifted the car a bit and that, combined with my jumping off the road, caused him to miss me by about six inches. I barely avoid my dogs. “

Pace said the car continued to veer down the sidewalk, hit a tree and nearly hit a man walking with a stroller on the sidewalk.

“Then he lost his wheel and then he was driving on one of his tires and he kept going down the sidewalk. People jumped out of the way. “

A group of construction workers was also nearly toppled before the vehicle plunged to a stop at a construction site.

Vancouver police confirmed a vehicle drove into a construction site in the area. Police said alcohol could be a factor.

There were no reports of any injuries, police said.
