Pics Of Japan’s Penis Festival, Kanamara Matsuri
In early April, a lot of revelers gather in Kawasaki city, about 30 minutes south of Tokyo, to celebrate Kanamara Matsuri – Japan’s infamous penis festival, which roughly translates to Yang Festival steel object. The main festivals of the Kanamara Matsuri have been taking place on the first Sunday of April since 1969 (yes, seriously).
At the festival centered on um, organ and fertility, attendees can erect a giant phallic statue on a portable shrine, enjoy phallic lollipops, purchase phallic candles, and (obviously) dress up as a penis. There are countless penis goods!
“Wonderful. It’s fun, it’s unique, it’s a different experience,” said an Australian visitor to this year’s gathering. told Euronews. “It’s weird coming from Australia to see something like this, but it looks like everyone is having a great time.”
