PK Subban has announced his retirement.
Former Norris Trophy Winner as NHL’s Top Defender shared the news on his social media channels Tuesday morning.
The 33-year-old Toronto international played 13 seasons with the Montreal Canadianiens, Nashville Predators and New Jersey Devils.
Subban scored 115 goals and 467 points in 824 regular games of the season. The 43rd pick at the 2007 NHL draft added 62 points (18 goals, 44 assists) in 96 post-season games.
The flashy blue bra won the Norris Award in 2013 with Team Canada. And after signing an eight-year, $72 million contract with the club, he donated $10 million to the Montreal Children’s Hospital in 2016.
Subban, who was an unrestricted freelancer this summer, has worked on television in the past and hints at new opportunities in retirement.
“I never looked back at myself or felt like I was ‘just a hockey player,” he wrote. “I’ve always seen myself as someone who happens to play hockey.
“Having that perspective allows me to enjoy every change like it’s my last, celebrate every goal with emotion and play every game as if someone paid to watch me who hasn’t. I played before.”
