PlayStation Boss Jim Ryan Says “More Acquisitions Coming Soon”
As you may have heard by now, Sony is buying back Life and before Halo studio Bungie for $3.6 billion. This surprising news comes just weeks after Microsoft announced it would acquire Activision Blizzard for nearly $70 billion.
What else can we expect in the near future? Even on the Nintendo front, it might be best to brace yourself for what’s to come – with Sony Interactive Entertainment boss Jim Ryan announcing our friends at GamesIndustry.biz to “expect more” of PlayStation acquisitions.
These recent acquisitions haven’t really affected Nintendo so far, but if Sony and Microsoft continue to acquire studios like this – who knows what will remain at this rate. There’s been a lot of speculation about who could be bought next, but if it’s an important third-party developer, that could ultimately affect Nintendo.
For now, Sony has made it clear that Bungie will continue to operate as a cross-platform company, and Bungie itself has also said it will continue to independently publish and creatively develop its games. How do you feel about PlayStation’s acquisition of Bungie? And what do you think of all these recent acquisitions in general? Leave a comment below.
