Pokémon and Mini Cooper announce new electric car inspired by Pikachu
Beep beep! You heard that? It’s the sound of distracted drivers everywhere because Pokémon announced a new partnership with Mini (also known as Mini Cooper) to bring a new Pokémon model of the electric Mini Concept Aceman vehicle. Special model revealed at Opening Night Live at Gamescom on Tuesday.
The hatchback has a futuristic, neon look, all very reminiscent of an LED gaming setup. A trailer showcasing the all-electric hatchback shows the beloved Pokémon front and center on the digital console. When you start the car, an electric animation plays as sparks light up on the dashboard. This model also features animated pixelated front lights on the bumper, as well as custom puddle lights that project “Mini x Pokémon” when you open the doors.
According to Oliver Heilmer, head of Mini Design, you can connect your console to your car, but it’s unclear what this means. (Perhaps we can play Nintendo Switch while the car is parked and charging?) Plus, there’s a built-in projector in case you want to revisit old Pokémon movies while hanging out under the bridge with you his friends. Pokémon Mini is basically a specialized version of a previously announced model, which you can learn more about about Mini’s website.
Heilmer says that Mini is promoting a “playful mindset” and that the official motto of the partnership is “Play On. Never stop playing”. We can only hope that this motto isn’t taken literally, as none of us want to bang on fenders with drivers looking to catch rare shiny Pokémon.
