When Pokémon Unite originally revealed in June 2020, it bad for the Pokémon community at that time. The reveal trailer generated 150,000 dislikes in less than 24 hours and even surpassed the reveal of Metroid Prime: Federation Forcesgot over 90k dislikes in less than a day.
Fast-forward to April 2022, and it’s an entirely different situation for a free-to-play MOBA-style Pokémon game. It’s safe to say that Unite is big, like really big – with the latest announcement from The Pokémon Company revealing Nintendo Switch and mobile combined downloads have now surpassed 70 million worldwide.
Pokémon Unite has gone from strength to strength since its original launch. Most recently, the game added Azumarill as a new playable fighter, following the release of Duraludon in March. Here’s the new trailer – including Google’s translation of the description, noting how it’s now surpassed 70 million downloads:
The “team strategy game” Pokemon Unite “has exceeded 70 million downloads worldwide! Both a Nintendo Switch version and a smartphone version are currently in distribution! It’s a Pokemon battle! new. Grow and score. The key to the game is unity.”
