The video was released a day after the officers involved were charged with murder in Nichols’ death.
The Nichols family’s legal team compared the attack to the famous 1991 Los Angeles police beating of Rodney King.
The footage also features an officer saying he will baton Nichols, and shows one officer raising the baton while other officers hold Nichols down. After being beaten, officers were seen standing around for several minutes as Nichols leaned against a car, then collapsed onto the street.

Like Shade room previously reported, the footage was shown to Nichols’ family. Memphis Police Superintendent Cerelyn “CJ” Davis asked residents to “protest peacefully” after the footage was made public.
This is not just a professional failure. This is the failure of basic humanity to another individual.
