Police shoot dog in North Aurora after animals attack 6-year-old boy and dog’s owner
NORTH AURORA, Ill. (CBS) North Aurora police say officers shot a dog Thursday afternoon after the dog attacked a 6-year-old boy and the animal’s owner.
Police were called to block 200 of Hidden Creek Lane in North Aurora, just off Oak Street, to reports of an ongoing dog attack.
When officers arrived, the dog was attacking its owner inside the locked home. Firefighters assisted in rescuing a 2-year-old boy through a window before officers could get inside to rescue the dog’s owner.
When the dog’s owner appeared from a corner around, covered in blood, an officer fired four shots at the dog, fearing it would attack police and firefighters, or bystanders in the area. Town. The dog ran away and was later found alive under the bed, and taken away by an animal control officer.
Police learned that the dog attacked a 6-year-old boy who did not live at home, and that the child’s mother injured her hand while freeing the boy. The dog then began attacking its owner, a man who lived at the house.
Both the boy and the dog’s owner were taken to the hospital. Police said the boy was seriously injured. The man’s condition is not available.
