Police use drones to find suspects hidden in dense trees


ST Gate. LUCIE, Fla. – Port St. Police Department. Lucie said its officers used drones to find a suspect who fled in a crash on Sunday.

Police said Jeremiah Nantz, 43, was riding an unregistered motorcycle with a stolen registration label in Port St. Lucie Blvd.

According to officials, Nantz forgot to knock down his kickstand, causing him to slam into the curb. Nantz then went into hiding just after midnight.

Officer Faleiros recently joined the Unmanned Aircraft Unit and is operating the drone on his first sortie mission alongside officers K9 Biano and Ciro.

Officials said Faleiros had identified the suspect hiding in a wooded area and directed officers to immediately go to Nantz.

Officers said they also found cracked pipes and prescription drugs for which Nantz did not have a prescription.

According to officials, Nantz is also wanted for an incident six hours earlier when he entered a home, knocked over the victim and poured bleach on someone’s personal belongings, causing medical damage. $3,000 for clothes and $200 for a phone.

Due to his injuries from the motorcycle crash, Nantz was taken to a local hospital before being sent to jail.

Nantz was charged with battery, theft, crime, controlled drug possession without a prescription, possession of a drug device, failure to register a motor vehicle, driving with a suspended license and driving motorcycle without endorsement.
