Portuguese artist paints Jimmy Garoppolo everyday
On Monday, the story of Jimmy Garoppolo in San Francisco took place sudden turn. Instead of trading the two-time Super Bowl champion, as many expected, the 49ers opted to keep Garoppolo on, restructuring his contract to make him the highest-paid substitute in the NFL. . For most people, this move will be unimportant, something they think about once and then forget completely. After all, Trey Lance will always be the guy in San Francisco this year. However, for 49er fans, Rita Carvalho, known online as Rita . OakThis decision means everything.
Carvalho has gained a huge online following by “drawing Jimmy G every day until he gets traded”. Every morning, like the hands of a clock, a new post pops up on her feed about Garoppolo in a different outfit, or interspersed with a movie, meme, or pop culture reference. they are different and although Garoppolo’s transaction timeline has been kept indefinitely, Carvalho vows to continue her commitment to bit.
“After thinking about the pros and cons, and talking to my boyfriend about whether or not we would do this, I thought I would continue to draw Garoppolo,” Carvalho told Deadspin. “As long as I can make people happy, I’ll keep doing it.”
Carvalho’s Garoppolo drawings began in early February, during the mid-MLB lockdown. That’s really where she gets her inspiration for her drawings. See, at the start of the lockdown, Reddit user u/DidItForTheStory started his own sequence of events called “Draw Mike Trout every day until the course is over. “It lasted 96 days and ranged from brutal descriptions of AL MVP three times to Salmon posing like Kim Kardashian. The posts were very popular, garnering thousands of upvotes every day. Seeing how pleased these drawings made people, Carvalho started her own series, and after posting a few pictures of herself, a few strangers online convinced her to start. began a series of films following the Garoppolo commercial story. Each drawing takes about one to two hours to complete, sometimes more depending on how detailed the image is and/or how many other players will be in the picture with Garoppolo.
“We wanted to celebrate what Garoppolo has done for this team,” Carvalho claimed. “My first drawing was sort of just a ‘Thank You’ note showing how grateful we were for everything he did for the team. I was kind of sad to see him go.”
Thankfully, Carvalho won’t have to see Garoppolo go, at least not in the immediate future now. However, that does make her work considerably harder. Carvalho claimed that when she started this project, ideas came to her easily.
“We hadn’t done anything, so any reference we could think of sounded like good ideas.”
Now, as the days climbed into the hundreds, she’s had to ask for ideas from her community more often. Carvalho believes that’s where some of her best ideas have come from. Her Date 209 drawing – posted August 30, the morning after Jimmy G’s new contract details were announced, ending any commercial rumors – depicting Garoppolo as Jordan Belfort in The Wolf of Wall Street shout out the famous quote”I’m not going anywhere! The showdown continues!“Signaling to all her fans that both she and Jimmy G are going anywhere anytime soon. That idea came to her from a fan.
“I had someone on Reddit who messaged me and asked me to do the idea, but I never did. At the time, we all thought he was going to be trafficked, so I never did. But I guess everything happens for a reason. When my boyfriend and I decided to move on, we thought OK, this is the perfect reference we have. ‘ It fits perfectly,” says Carvalho.
When asked about her favorite drawings from the series, Carvalho said that her Calvin & Hobbes drawing – Day 169 – depicts George Kittle as Hobbes reminding Calvin/Garoppolo to appreciate the good things in life before it’s gone, stand out.
“The message of appreciating things is very important to me, because I think we only appreciate things when they are gone. I think that gave something different to the drawing. It’s one of my favorites. ”
Carvalho will certainly appreciate the 49ers while they are in good form. She and her boyfriend, who made Carvalho a 49ers fan three years ago, believe the team is prepared for the Super Bowl in 2022. When asked what she expects from the team during the season “This year we can make it to the Super Bowl,” Carvalho said. We have two star QBs. There’s no reason at all. We have to go far.”
As a 49ers fan myself, I certainly hope so too. Even if they’re disappointed, 49ers fans everywhere can go online and check out Garoppolo’s new drawing every morning. Hopefully, that will make the season a little more bearable if things go wrong.
