Teague’s machine learning algorithm was able to predict with nearly 70% accuracy which fathers would use more languages ​​reflecting postpartum depression based on their prenatal posting habits.

“Effective social interaction is a major symptom of depression,” she said. “It’s shown online through dads’ posting behavior.”

Reddit users were quick to respond to posts about common challenges, like problems in the home environment or broader social issues. But when the posters shared personal challenges like mental health issues, communities were less willing to help, Teague said.
