Pre-booked 10K COVID-19 vaccination appointments in Waterloo Region for children aged 5-11
As of Thursday afternoon, more than 20% of newly eligible children between the ages of 5 and 11 in Waterloo Region had been registered for their first dose of the COVID-19 vaccine.
According to Vickie Murray, head of the region’s vaccine task force, 10,500 appointments were secured in just over two days since the option became available.

“I am pleased to share that there are still nearly 20,000 more appointments for kids in our area before December 12,” she explains.
It is estimated that there are about 48,000 children of that age in the area, so there are still thousands of children who have not been scheduled, although it is not clear if Murray’s inventory includes appointments at clinics. pharmacy or family doctor or not.

Some open appointments are available on ‘per dose’ weekends at the Cambridge Pinebush Clinic.
The region hopes to vaccinate 6,000 children in two days at its largest clinic.
“The staff at Pine Ridge are working hard to bring a festive spirit to the clinic that weekend,” says Murray. “Extend business hours and engage more staff to provide an enjoyable vaccination experience.”

She said they have also opened appointments for the next eight weeks, when the kids will be ready to receive a second dose of the COVID-19 vaccine.
“I hope that more people will take advantage of these 20,000 open appointments as we work toward our goal of getting all our kids vaccinated before the holidays,” she said.
