Prepare for the draft with Chet Holmgren, the NBA’s next unicorn

Right from the jump, Holmgren had his eye on a paisley-style black coat, a jacket he agreed to pair with a matching vest. The final look will be filled with a simple black shirt and trousers to match. In a Federation ready move, Holmgren also wanted to swap a chain in favor of a necklace. When asked if he wears a thin silver chain dangling under his T-shirt, he laughs. “No, it would be a lot bigger,” he said.

No. Zegna isn’t Holmgren’s first suit – he has a simple one made during his school year at Gonzaga – but he insists the gap in quality between the two means it could well be. so. “You can only make a first impression once, so I went with Zegna,” he said. “I wanted to make sure I left this to some of the best people in the business.”

A jump in quality was also needed — whoever designed Holmgren’s suit would have a tough frame to handle. He is 7 meters tall, but also very angular and tall. (There’s a reason why it looks so wild when he’s bringing the ball coast to the shore.) That rules out longer, looser suits at this point—but sewing too thin can also be. lead to misinterpretation. (The good guy is Kevin Durant. The bad guy is Jack Skellington.) “We had to pay close attention to his figure,” notes Riccardo Davoli, manager of Zegna MTM. “But that is the benefit of doing to measure versus working from something other than a rack. We can style it to any body shape.”

In the weeks before the draft, Holmgren bumped into Neiman Marcus twice: first for an initial brainstorming and measuring session, and then his last. When he came out of the dressing room for the second round, his entire team breathed a sigh of relief. The paisley worked and the cut was to his proportions. Adjustments will be minimal and the suit he wears is more or less ready for the big time. Perhaps the black suit flattered him more than the one he wore when he walked in, the Chipotle bag dragging. Or maybe this 20-year-old girl radiated the confidence anyone would feel when wearing her own outfit. Whatever it may be, upon seeing him, an associate of Neiman Marcus muttered, “He looks over four inches tall.” They were not wrong.
