President of St. FX, vice-principal issues apology to broader community after COVID-19 outbreak
As officials work to contain the COVID-19 outbreak at St. Francis Xavier of Antigonish, NS, the school’s principal and vice-principal apologized to all those affected in the community.
“I’ve heard from our students, faculty and staff, their families, business owners and residents of Antigonish towns and counties. I hear the worry in your voice, the anxiety. and concern in your notes and I understand the ongoing anger felt after working together for a long time to get it right,” read a statement from Andy Hakin, president and vice president. chief at St. FX, on Saturday.
Hakin went on to say that people at the university “deeply regret the consequences of activities that should have been anniversaries.”
He added the impact the current outbreak is having on campus and the wider community is “simply heartbreaking.”
Hakin writes: “Our university will learn from this, and please note that we are committed to working with you to rebuild the trust that our 20-month successful journey preceded by pandemic has been supported”. “We’re so sorry. I’m so sorry. Didn’t mean this.”
As of Friday, December 10, the university’s total number of positive cases related to the outbreak is 114.
ST. CANCEL FX, INTERNAL TEST REGISTRATION
University of St. Francis Xavier of Antigonish, NS, is moving all upcoming exams to online format or postponing them until 2022 after an outbreak was announced at the school earlier this week.
In an announcement from the university on Friday, it said the school had decided to discontinue face-to-face exams for the December exam, starting Saturday, December 11.
In the release, it asks trainers to change to an alternative form of delivery, including online or take-home, when possible.
University officials added that for courses where such a change is “impractical,” faculty must postpone in-person exams until January.
