SOMERVILLE, MASS. (WHD) – A discarded Dunkin cup has led to the arrest of a Medford man who is said to have repeatedly hit a woman in the head with a rock before he dragged her off a trail. hiking at the Middlesex Fells Reservation and raped her, a prosecutor said.
Brady McCue, 28, was charged Monday in Somerville County Court with one count of armed assault to murder, assault and shooting with a dangerous weapon causing serious bodily injury, kidnapping and four counts of aggravated rape, according to the Middlesex County District Attorney’s Office.
According to prosecutor Carrie, a 48-year-old woman who did not know McCue was walking in the Leslie Trail area around 8 a.m. Friday when McCue struck her 14 times with a rock, sexually assaulted her, and sexually assaulted her. then fled the scene. Spiros told the court.
The victim suffered severe head and face injuries, but she was conscious when she was found by emergency workers. She was also able to provide a detailed description of the suspect, as well as information about the Dunkin’ cup of coffee he was carrying at the time of the alleged assault.
“Her attacker was carrying a cup of white coffee. Investigators focused on that coffee cup. They can locate a sticker on the side of it, indicating the order number and the location where it was purchased, including the time it was purchased,” explains Spiros. “They went to Dunkin’ Donuts, where that cup of coffee was bought. Coffee was purchased in Medford Square. “
Spiros noted that investigators later reviewed surveillance footage at Dunkin’ and found an image consistent with the scene where McCue was buying the cup of coffee in question.
McCue allegedly admitted to the crime, telling police he was living with schizophrenia and not taking medication.
“Before buying coffee at Dunkin’ Donuts, he left his apartment with the intention of hurting someone,” Spiros said. “He later indicated that he left the apartment with the intention of killing someone.”
The victim told investigators that McCue threw his coat over her and left her to die, according to Spiros.
McCue is being held without bail pending a second trial on December 6.
An investigation is still ongoing.
