In a video released just hours before the indictment was made public, Fortenberry said he was “shocked” and “stunned” as he added, “About five and a half years ago, someone from abroad moved illicit money came to my campaign — I know nothing about this — and used several other Americans to do so. All were caught and punished, fortunately.”
