Quebec COVID cases above 1,100 for 2nd day in a row

Quebec is reporting 1,146 new COVID-19 cases on Thursday, bringing its total caseload since the health crisis began to 450,513.

Quebec’s Institute of Public Health recorded that 430,061 people have recovered, out of a total of 8,869 active cases.

Up to now, the province has recorded 11,583 deaths related to the virus, including two cases within the past 24 hours.

Hospitalizations fell by 12 on Thursday, with 18 patients hospitalized and 30 discharged from a total of 227 Quebec patients hospitalized with the virus. Of those, 53 are in intensive care.

Immunization continues with efforts focused on giving the first dose of the vaccine to children between the ages of five and 11, before Christmas.

To date, 108,337 people in that age group have been vaccinated and 142,867 have booked an appointment.

Health officials also hope to be able to give a third booster dose to people with Quebe Cancer who are over 70 years old or who have already received two doses of the AstraZeneca vaccine.

As it stands, 81.2% of the population received at least one dose.
