What is it with Animal Crossing: New Horizons and unexpected nudity? Whether it is accurate depiction of classical statues (junk and all!) or Strange glitch causes villagers to lose their clotheswe started to wonder if this was some sort of plot by Tom Nook to generate interest in a certain nudist resort.
Either way, there will be more nudity, and this time a photo of everyone’s favorite purple cat villager, Bob:
This problem has existed for a while – maybe even from the beginning, as the first case we were able to find was from June 2020, just a few months after the game’s release. So how did it happen? Why is Bob naked? For that matter, why is it always Bob?
Bob is the first regular villager card in the amiibo series and he also has a birthday January 1. This is no coincidence – Bob (or Nikoban, as he’s known in Japan) is actually the first villager created to Mule, as confirmed in this Famitsu interview. Since he’s number one (or zero, since computer programming always starts at zero) out of many, there’s a chance that the game will default to him when something goes wrong – which is obvious in this.
Interestingly, Bob doesn’t actually say his name when he shows up, instead saying something like “Hi! That’s it!” or me!” with a space where the name would be. And he’s naked because…
…well, we don’t quite know how Nintendo’s system works, so we can only speculate. But let’s say the amiibo card gives the game a string of numbers – a number that says what character it is, what they’re wearing, what their name is, etc. If something goes wrong giving the number “000000”, then the game play will find what matches “0” for each instance – that will be Bob’s model, with no name and no clothes.
Well, either, or Bob is going through a midlife crisis.
Have friend see Bob naked in your game? Please call the police if so.
