Rangers vs Napoli enters Wednesday with UEFA matches scheduled for this week | Football news
Rangers’ Champions League group stage match at home to Napoli has been pushed back 24 hours to Wednesday following discussions between Police Scotland, club Glasgow and UEFA.
European football’s governing body has announced that the match at Ibrox Stadium, which was originally set to take place on Tuesday, has been rescheduled to Wednesday, September 14 at 8pm.
A UEFA statement explained: “This is due to severe limitations in police resources and organizational issues related to the ongoing events surrounding the national mourning for Queen Elizabeth II.”
The UEFA Youth League match between both teams that was originally set for Tuesday has also been moved to kick off at 2pm on Wednesday.
UEFA has also announced that there will be no away fans at Ibrox this week and because of sporting fair play, Rangers supporters will not be allowed to attend the second leg at Napoli on the 26th. October.
Fans have been advised to avoid making travel arrangements and to respect this unusual situation.
All UEFA matches are scheduled to go ahead as planned next week on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays.
All Premier League and English Football League matches this weekend have been postponed as a sign of respect.
All matches in the Women’s Super League, Women’s Championship and Women’s FA Cup have also been postponed.
The Football Association of Scotland has announced the postponement of all professional matches throughout the weekend, while all football in Northern Ireland and Wales is also closed.
The English Football League will kick off on Tuesday with a full midweek program.
Sporting CP vs Tottenham continue despite technical errors
Tottenham have clarified that their Champions League group stage match against Sporting CP this week in Lisbon will take place as scheduled (Tuesday 13 September kicking off at 5:45pm).
The match was called into doubt after a technical glitch on the club’s website indicated the match had been postponed.
Tottenham and Sporting both won their opening matches in Group D matches against Marseille and Eintracht Frankfurt.
Richarlison scored two headers to beat Tottenham against 10-man Marseille as Champions League football returned to north London.
Sporting won 3-0 in Frankfurt, with England striker Marcus Edwards breaking the deadlock midway through the second half before former Wolves winger Francisco Trincao and Nuno Santos scooped up three points.
