SACRAMENTO, California – Track & Field/Cross Country Sacramento State Director Kenny McDaniel has appointed Delaney Rasmussen as the team’s distance coach, it was announced today. In his new role, Rasmussen will oversee the boys and girls cross country teams and coach student-athletes in the 800 meter to 10K races in the indoor and outdoor seasons.
A native of Folsom, California, Rasmussen attended Vista Del Lago HS, where she set school records in 800 and was a three-time Sac-Joaquin Section Div. III champion. She won the cross-county section title in the fall of 2016 and then returned in the spring to finish first in the 1600s and 3200s in her senior season. She was also the Capital Athletic League champion in 1600 as a sophomore and senior and finished first in the cross country tournament in 2016.
Rasmussen moved to Northern Arizona, where she was part of several Big Sky Conference championship teams. In cross country, she competed in the NCAA Div. I’m a three-time champion and part of the team that won the Big Sky title in 2017, 2019, 2020 and 2021.
On the track, she scored 10 times for the team at the Big Sky indoor and outdoor championships. As a senior, Rasmussen was second in the 10K table with a PR of 35:34.98 and also sixth in the 5K table. She ended her career by advancing to the NCAA West Pre Preliminary for the second time.

Sacramento State is scheduled to begin its 2022 cross country season at the Nevada Sunset meet in Reno, Nev., on Thursday, September 1.
