The RCMP has arrested a suspect that police believe is related to a break-and-enter of a gun shop in Dunmore, Alta., near Medicine Hat.
And officers seized three handguns, a limited assault rifle, ammunition, “a large amount” of cocaine and more than $8,000 in cash.
On May 5, a suspect entered a gun club and gun store in Dunmore with a stolen vehicle, stealing several handguns, the RCMP said.
The investigation led the RCMP to attempt to locate the suspect in the 300 block of Highland Circle in Strathmore.
A man matching the description was found walking in the area. Police said the man was cutting through a residential yard when a police car arrived but he was later located and arrested.
A search warrant for the man’s residence found items related to the gun club and store robbery, along with drugs, money and a gun in a backpack he dropped when police entered. .

“The fact that Redcliff investigators were able to quickly identify this suspect helped locate and arrest him before committing any further crime and preventing further illegal possession of these firearms, “Staff Sgt. Mark Wielgosz, commander of the Strathmore RCMP detachment, said in a statement.
“This investigation highlights the seamless collaboration between RCMP Squads to tackle crime, recover assets, and apprehend offenders to keep our communities safe.”
Josh Munroe, a 21-year-old Strathmore resident, was remanded in custody and faces the following charges:
- Breaking in and breaking in with the intention of stealing a gun;
- Illegally possessing weapons;
- Possession of a firearm as a result of a crime;
- Possession of a weapon/ammunition contrary to the prohibition;
- Wearing a disguise with the intent to commit a prosecuteable offence;
- Unsafe gun storage/handling;
- Carry a concealed firearm;
- Possession of a restricted/prohibited weapon with ammunition;
- Possession of restricted/prohibited firearms for commercial purposes;
- Possession of a gun with a serial number removed;
- Appropriating property acquired by committing a crime; and
- Possession of a controlled substance for trafficking purposes.
