The super-sized peanut butter cup is about the size of a real cake, measuring 9 inches in diameter and weighing 3.4 pounds.
“When you gather friends and family for Thanksgiving dinner, no dessert is complete without dessert,” said Bo Jones, senior vice president of brand at Reese’s. “At Reese’s, we wanted to create a dessert that everyone wants to eat. You can thank us later.”
Only 3,000 cupcakes are available for purchase on Hershey’s website for $44.99 plus tax.
This isn’t the first time Reese’s has experimented with its peanut butter cup. Earlier this year, Hershey released a all peanut butter cups without chocolate. This is the first time in the company’s 90-year history that their peanut butter cups have taken chocolate out of the equation entirely. Versions of the Peanut Butter Lovers Cup came out in 2019 and 2020, but they still contain some chocolate.
Hershey, like other confectioners, relies on impulse buying to drive sales. In 2020, candy company released peanut butter cup filled with cookies and peanut butter and chocolate Snack cake it’s advertised as a “mid-morning snack.”
