The Bucks are opting for squad flexibility ahead of their contract deadline on Friday, January 10, with their squad currently sitting at 14 players. If the Bucks don’t give up Cousins, his contract will be secured and count towards their salary cap and luxury tax bill for the rest of the season.
“We wouldn’t have made it through this difficult period of the season as successfully as we did without DeMarcus,” Bucks General Manager Jon Horst told ESPN.
“At the end of the day, we made the strategic decision to have an expansive roster, but nothing can stop us from partnering with DeMarcus again. He’s been great for us and hopefully. We can help him too.”
Cousins averaged 9.0 points, 5.8 rebounds in 17 games (five starts) for the Bucks, with the news coming shortly after he scored a 15-point, 10 rebound double against Toronto. Raptors.
