Research says 87% of people tested have antibodies to COVID

Of the 32,245 people examined for the survey, 27,324 (85%) were vaccinated, and of those, 24,667 (90%) had detectable levels of IgG antibodies to SARS-CoV-2.

Interestingly, the statement said that of the 4,921 unvaccinated people tested as part of the study, 3374 (69%) developed antibodies.

The study highlights that vaccinated people have better detectable antibody levels. Of those taking Covaxin or Covishield, more than 80% had antibodies. The study also found that 68% of unvaccinated people aged 11-18 had detectable antibody levels. The health ministry considers this to be evidence of indirect exposure to natural infection.

Tamil Health Minister Nadu Ma Subramanian when speaking to IANS said, “The state’s public health ministry took a sample of people over 10 years of age from 1,076 clusters across all districts of the state and found that an average of 87 % have developed antibodies, and this is a good sign.”

He said that each cluster had 30 people randomly drawn from the community and said that district collectors were asked to increase vaccination coverage in districts with susceptible seroprevalence rates below 84%. The minister said Thirupathur with 82%, Kancheepuram with 83%, Villupuram and Dharmapuri with 84% belong to this group.

Meanwhile, whole-genome sequencing conducted on January 26 showed that 97% of samples were Omicron variants while only 3% were Delta variants of the Covid-19 virus.

Interestingly, on December 7, all samples were Delta, but on December 11, 87% were Delta while 13% were Omicron variants.

Health Minister Tamil Nadu said the coverage rate of the first dose vaccination for children aged 15-18 is 80.48% while the coverage rate of the second dose is 22.13%. He also said that only 4% of active cases were received at hospitals across the state.
