‘Riders of Justice’ remake set in Lionsgate, Shawn Levy – The Hollywood Reporter
Justice is up and running again, but this time in English.
In a preemptive situation, Lionsgate chose the English language rights Riders of Justice, the Danish action comedy film directed by Anders Thomas Jensen.
21 Laps’ Shawn Levy, Dan Levine and Dan Cohen who are about to release a successful Levy-directed film Free boy, will produce the adaptation, bringing along some of the main creative work from the original team. Jensen and Nikolaj Arcel, who co-wrote the 2020 film, will write the English version.
The film was originally about a recently discharged soldier who returns home to take care of his teenage daughter after his wife is killed in a tragic train accident. But when a group of statisticians declare foul play, the soldier embarks on a quest for revenge, along with this eclectic group, to find those responsible.
Sisse Graum, who produced the original film through Zentropa alongside Sidsel Hybschmann, and Anders Kjaerhauge will executive produce. Zentropa gained attention when the TV series Mads Mikkelsen Another round, which won the Oscar for best foreign film earlier this year.
“Few films have been able to strike a balance between action, romance and dark humor that Anders has done so successfully. Riders of Justice,” said Erin Westerman, president of production at Lionsgate. “We are confident that the film will also translate perfectly for English-speaking audiences.”
James Myers is supervising for Lionsgate.
21 rounds’ Free boystarring Ryan Reynolds has grossed over $330 million worldwide. The banner has several movies in the post, including Project Adam, a Netflix sci-fi thriller, retries Levy with Reynolds, Crater, a Disney+ teen horror film, and Rosaline, a teen comedy film by 20th Century Studios. The TV side is also busy, with Strange things part four of the lesson and part two of Balls and bones prepare for production.
Jensen, three-time Oscar nominee, and Arcel are writing a limited series Florence’s Monster with Antonio Banderas set to star. Wildside and Studiocanal are producing.
