Brussels sprouts… the dreaded vegetable of childhood! However, cooked properly, they can become a favorite of both children and adults. Seriously, I have kids who get super excited when they discover grilled Brussels sprouts are used for dinner!

They are also a great addition to a Thanksgiving or Holiday Menu or a perfect side for chicken or fish. All combined with just 15 minutes of practice and just one baking sheet. So, if you’re at the store or farmers market and see Brussels sprouts for sale (or if you grow them), grab them and give this recipe a try!

Delicious Brussels sprouts even kids will eat!

My kids call the cabbage small. I never realized before they mentioned it, but they actually look like mini cabbages, making them even more fun and appealing to kids.

It’s also really cool to see how they grow. I find that growing and then cooking vegetables makes the kids more willing to try them.

The secret to these Brussels sprouts? The addition of bacon! It doesn’t take much bacon to create a nice savory savory to complement the slightly bitter greens.

We also really like the drizzled Brussels sprouts with some raw honey for a sweet and savory blend!

Roasted Brussels Sprouts

This recipe was inspired by a restaurant I once visited. I don’t think I like the texture or taste of this particular vegetable. But everything is served family style so I gave it a try. I was completely blown away by how good they are! Magic happens when you roast vegetables.

I usually let the kids help by cutting each sprout in half or quarters. I keep one of these crinkly cutters on hand for every child so they can help without cutting their fingers. It’s also a great kid-friendly tool so they can help chop carrots and celery for snacks or turnips, zucchini, etc. to make soup.

After chopping, spread them in a pan with some thinly sliced onion and diced bacon, sprinkle with seasoning, mix well, and place in the oven. Just ignore it and let it do its thing while you work for the rest of dinner.

Do not think you are a Brussels? You may never have been well prepared for them. Try these… they might change your mind!

Update: I always bake vegetables in the oven, but recently I have a dryer and it works phenomenally for roasting vegetables. It takes less time, doesn’t heat up the whole house, and is both delicious and beautiful. If you want to try them that way, cook them at 375°F for 15 minutes.
