Russell Westbrook wears for Rolex’s biggest release of the year

Welcome to Clock of the weekwhere we’ll track the rarest, wildest and most coveted watches spotted on celebrities.

Different, unexpected, once, controversial: these are just some of the things Russell Westbrook has in common with his new watch. Sitting on the court at the NBA Summer League, Russ wore the headpiece from the new Rolex release premieres at Watches & Wonders at the end of March: black and green bezel GMT-Master II. And while Rolex has offered three refurbished GMTs in the last 5 years, this is more than just a GMT – it is set in a rare configuration. If you look closely, you’ll see that both the date window and crown (knob protruding from the case) are located on the left side of the watch. This is what is known in the watch world as a destroyed watch, or a specially crafted watch for all the favorable people out there. All in all, it’s hard to find wristwatches, but those are especially high-end Rolexes. Prior to this GMT, the only Rolex watches in existence were Custom jobs for people like Charlie Chaplin. Westbrook’s GMT is the first fully produced production of an out-of-the-ordinary timepiece from Crown. Naturally, this is a perfect watch for Westbrook, who is quite the oddball. Though he shoots with his right hand, he’s a natural forefoot – an oddity he shares with Rudy Gobert and teammate (current!) LeBron James. This watch really applies Westbrook’s #WhyNot philosophy.

Breitling Navitimer B01 43 Chronograph by Brad Pitt

Conventionally speaking, Pitt is playing the perfect game on his latest press tour, advertising High speed train. The actor worked with Haans Nicholas Mott, who only makes custom clothes for referred clients, on a whole series of costumes that help Pitt demonstrates his “clear sense of how he wants to be in the world,” says the designer GQ. Especially evident is Pitt’s new sense of color: he personally requested this chocolate linen dress, and a previous stop saw him dressed as a cantaloupe, here it is. the ugliest part of the fruit bowl but a surprisingly great color for the suit. Pitt paired that orange set with a Breitling Navitimer in another surprisingly bold color: glacier blue. The Navitimer is a classic watch, the choice of aviators everywhere, but only this year Breitling has launched new versions of the watch in fun colors, like this cool one. An old classic refresh its look? This Pitt and Breitling are meeting on common ground.

Steph Curry Vacheron Constantin Overseas Chronograph

Something about winning his first Finals MVP really set off the watch collector in Steph Curry. Curry wearing a navy blue Cartier Santos to the championship paradeand just this week, he’s shown off two more killer pieces: he’s wearing a Patek Philippe Nautilus Perpetual Calendar arrive the premiere of ARE NOT and this Vacheron while hosting the ESPY programs. Now you know all about the Nautilus, but this Vacheron is another luxury sport watch that leans more towards the former description. At just over $32,000, this isn’t your everyday typing watch, but it’s considerably more than enough for ESPY’s storage duties.

Lindsey Vonn’s Rolex Daytona “Rainbow”

Speaking of luxury sports watches that seem more luxurious… Vonn’s gem-set Daytona has stretched that idea to its absolute limit. This Daytona feels like it was born out of a thought experiment to create the most luxurious watch possible. It is the answer to a variety of questions like, What if we put 36 multicolored sapphires on the bezel? And since that’s not enough ice, what about the 56 more diamonds on the box? And because It’s a If that’s not enough, why not use more diamonds for the hour markers and gold sub-dials? Naturally, all of this would live on a yellow gold case, wouldn’t it?

Pusha T’s Rolex GMT-Master II

Pusha T subscribes to the if-it-don’t-break-don’t-fix-it way of life. For him, that means rapping about coke every chance he gets, even if he’s just doing an Arby commercial. So it makes sense that he would rock this classic and sturdy version of GMT. Pusha is a famous Rolex fan who owns more than one watch dozens of different pieces from the Crown and even named his 2018 album Daytona after one of the brand’s watches. In one videos for GQPusha calls Rolex a benchmark and some say “I made it” like this black and blue GMT.
