Both Ukrainian officials and the Russian Defense Ministry have announced extensive military action in eastern Ukraine in the past 24 hours.

Pavlo Kyrylenko, head of the Donetsk regional military government, said that Russian missile attacks on the town of Kramatorsk destroyed at least eight residential buildings and educational infrastructure.

“The shelling along the entire front line did not stop throughout the night. The enemy fired most intensely in the directions of Mariinka, Avdiivka and Ocheretyne,” Kyrylenko said.

All three towns have come under widespread shelling in recent weeks but remain under Ukrainian control.

“No civilian casualties have been reported so far, but many homes have been damaged and electricity and gas supplies interrupted,” Kyrylenko said.

In neighboring Luhansk, Ukraine’s Interior Ministry said on Sunday that Russian forces “fired mortars, artillery and multiple rocket launches at Severodonetsk, Rubizhne, Kreminna, Lysychansk, Popasna, Hirske and Zolote.”

“The enemy is deliberately targeting multi-storey and private households,” it added.

“Due to shelling, 29 settlements remain without electricity, 38 settlements without gas supply … No water supply in Rubizhne, Popasna.”

These cities and towns form a cluster of urban settlements that have been Ukraine’s frontline for several weeks and have been badly damaged. Ukrainian officials estimate that 70% of Severodonetsk has been destroyed.

Despite the fighting, some evacuations continued.

Serhii Haidai, head of the Luhansk Regional Military Administration, said 67 residents had been rescued from Severodonetsk, Rubizhne, Popasna, Lysychansk and Hirske.

“The security situation changes hourly,” Haidai said.

For its part, the Russian Defense Ministry said in a statement on Monday that Russian forces had launched missiles launched from incorrect paths around Ukraine, claiming to have destroyed 16 Ukrainian military installations in just a few days. one night.

The statement confirmed that the Russian missile hit five Ukrainian command posts, a fuel depot, three ammunition depots, and military personnel and equipment. Most of the targets are in or around Donbas.

CNN could not immediately verify those claims.

Authorities in Ukraine’s Zaporizhzhia region, which borders Donetsk, said the territorial defense brigades “fought the whole length of the front line.”

The spokesman for the Zaporizhzhia regional military government, Colonel Ivan Arefyev, said there had been Russian shelling of several villages in the Donetsk region, including Staromayorske and Makarivka. Several settlements inside the Zaporizhzhia area were also attacked, he said.

“The Russian military is using tanks, armored personnel carriers and infantry. In addition, they bombard settlements in the area with air, multiple GRAD rocket launchers, small arms artillery, guns. 120 mm mortar and large machine gun,” added Arefyev. “counterattack operations with air support, multiple rocket launchers, artillery, mortars, armored personnel carriers” are underway.

According to CNN’s analysis of the battlefields, most of the villages believed to have been attacked inside Zaporizhzhia were not previously targeted.
