Rutgers push for unraveling to lead to fourth place win and goal

Rutgers football is back for the 2022 season and things got off to a pretty bad start for Boston College on Saturday.

After putting together a push that made the Scarlet Knights win first place and goal inside the 10-yard line, a lot of bad things unraveled leading to a hit – yes, a hit – in fourth place and the goal to go on.

Just look at it.

How did that even happen, you ask? A great question. So let’s recap the clown car of madness.

As for the first goal, Kyle Monangai’s two-yard run set up Rutgers a second and a second from the eight-yard line. Not an ideal playstyle, but certainly acceptable. Nothing out of the ordinary here. But.

The next play resulted in a penalty jamming the attacking pass, followed by a 15-yard goal that sent Rutgers back to the 23-yard line for a second replay.

Things didn’t go any better as the match was re-triggered as another penalty, this time a sent-in penalty, Rutgers backing another 10 yards to retake the shot down from the 33-yard line.

After an unfinished situation, Rutgers was then flagged for a wrong start in third to push the script line back to the 38-yard line. That is already on the outer edge of the actual scoring range for a college player, which will leave the Rutgers coaching staff with a tough decision if it falls short of any measure.

But it was a decision Rutgers never had to make because the third game and goal (from the 38th minute!) resulted in a hit that pushed the ball back to the 43-yard line, and forced a rare shot, but always funny, on the fourth goal and the goal.

This kind of thing happens from time to time, but it’s extremely rare.
