Ruth Carter becomes first black woman to win two Oscars

Ruth E. Carter made history: The costume designer behind the “Black Panther” movies became the first Black woman to win two Academy Awards.
Carter won best costume design for the Marvel sequel “Black Panther: Wakanda Forever”. Carter also won a 2018 Academy Award for “Black Panther,” making her the first African-American to win in the category.
In her acceptance speech, Carter thanked the film’s director Ryan Coogler and asked if “Black Panther” star Chadwick Boseman could take care of her mother, Mabel Carter, who she said passed away “last week.” . Boseman died in 2020 of cancer at the age of 43.
“This is for my mom. She’s 101 years old,” Carter said as he accepted the Oscar. “This movie prepared me for this moment,” she said. Chadwick, take care of mom, she said.
