Saints Row, the highly anticipated reboot of the Deep Silver street crime series, is out this week. After poor sales numbers for the 2017 spin-off, Agents of Mayhem, Volition is back to work on the latest version – removing the “eccentric” tone that recent entries have raved about. Saints Row 2022 is billed to have the biggest playground ever, with vibrant, neon-drenched vernacular characters and loads of crates of explosives and vehicles. The reboot arrives on all major platforms, delivering serious proportions and good wit, reminiscent of Saints Row 2.
First introduced at Gamescom last year, Saints Row The reboot was met with divided opinions across social media, with most criticizing the characters’ forced wryness. While in 2014 Saints Row IV Given the goofy concept of an alien invasion, it retains the edgy tone of its predecessors. With this reboot, creator Jim Boone plans to take it down a notch, claiming that such narrative rhythms won’t work in the current social climate. “We love [the old Saints Row games]but we also realized those were the games of the times,” he said in one interview. “They made sense in that era and we were able to do things that felt good back then. But that tone is not what we want to do today. We had a different kind of story that we wanted to tell. “
Set in the fictional, lawless city of Santa Ileso – loosely based on Las Vegas – Saints Row tasks players with assembling their own criminal factions and establishing control of the market town. You step into the shoes of a character known as The Boss and take on gangs of Idols, Los Panteros, and Marshall Defense Industries – all of which have deep connections to the underworld. Like previous games in the franchise, Saints Row will have you working your way up the ranks, as you gradually take control of nine districts across the map.
Unlocking each zone gives full freedom of what kind of “business” you want to run, from a wide selection of drugs, weapons, nightclubs, gambling, etc. These establishments can Help your gang earn enough money, wrest power from rivals, and eventually become the “Boss” of Santa Ileso. Players will be equipped with exotic weapons like laser pistols, bazookas, or even battle tanks to match the explosive feel of Saints Row. The character customization options are also very detailed, allowing you to choose funny costumes and emotes; and it also has a cooperative multiplayer system.
With that, here’s everything you need to know about Saints Row, available this weekend on all major platforms.

Saints Row game
Inspired by the exaggerated images in Reason, the Saints Row reboot acts like a sandbox, allowing you to go straight in to ensure chaos, with a bit of creativity. As the Boss, players team up with a ragtag group of hapless people and launch their own startup in Santa Ileso. A hotspot for business activity and booming crime, surrounded by a vast desert – the sinner’s ultimate playground.

Sounds great, making a quick buck here isn’t child’s play as you’re up against rival factions in the correct order in nine regions. Los Panteros is rife with speculative smugglers, Idols are a group of independent anarchists, and the Marshalls are a private military corporation. These gangs and six others run the city according to their own set of rules – failing to follow them could get you in trouble. Helping you on your journey will be the strategist Eli, the shirt-hating DJ Kevin and your trusty driver Neenah.
Saints Row also has a castle aka Saints HQ, where you run all the major operations. The hub holds all the ammunition and vehicles needed to expand the empire, as you experiment with spaceships, motorboats, helicopters, or honking around in a taco truck. Players can track missions with their in-game smartphones, as seen in Grand Theft Auto DRAWand even customize their look with a host of options – masks, vibrant helmets, hotdog outfits, makeup, accessories, the list goes on.
This time, Deep Silver introduced Saints Row Boss Factory, a custom hub that allows players to share their creations with others online. The kit is available to download for free and can be incorporated into the full game at launch, as long as you’re signed in to your Saints Row profile.
The reboot also comes with a co-op mode, though it’s limited to two players – similar to Knight of Gotham – with cross-generational support. Players from the same console family can play against each other, regardless of whether they own a PS4 or a PS5 or an Xbox One and Xbox Series S/X.
Saints Row download size
While the spec sheet for the game recommends a minimum of 50GB of storage, Saints Row on PC requires 40GB at install, Utility 360 can confirm. The remaining memory comes in handy when downloading self-extracting updates before being split with other installed files.
The other case is on the console side. According to reliable Twitter account PlaystationSize, Saints Row will take up 60.3GB on PS4 and 53.5GB on the new generation PS5. The Xbox file size is yet to be revealed, but fans will likely find it in the same ballpark.
