Samantha Bee Returns to Furiously Tear Down Alito, GOP, and Hannity
Full Frontal with Samantha Bee only a three-week hiatus on the same day that Justice Samuel Alito draft opinion aimed at overturning Roe v. Wade leaked to the press, making Thursday night the presenter’s first performance since that breaking news. “Just a beautiful day to kick back, enjoy the sun, and burn our throats with endless screams,” she jokes.
Turns out, it was worth the wait.
Bee called the draft opinion a trailer for “how horrible life is for a lot of people” once states are free to ban abortion outright and tear down the “angry” arguments that Alito, including his decision to quote a “damn 17th-century fool who defended marital rape and executed women for ‘witchcraft’. ”
She then hunted down conservatives “who see themselves as real victims” in response to mass protests, including in front of conservative Supreme Court justices’ homes. After playing clips of Sen. Mitch McConnell, Fox News’ Sean Hannity, Piers Morgan and others calling for “courtesy,” Bee replied, “Sorry, but in the most civil way possible. , can I humbly ask him ‘damn! ‘”
“How dare Republicans ask for courtesy when they take away our civil rights?!” exclaims the presenter. “When Susan Collins receives a chalk-covered sidewalk with the word bubble in it, she is not a victim. When Amy Coney Barrett’s mansion is visited by a group of roaming maids, she’s not a victim.”
Instead, Bee listed “the real victims of this atrocity,” including those who “could be charged with murder” for abortion, and people of color who would “suffer a terrible burden.” The worst of the reproductive decisions of men, the best I can tell, believe that women lay eggs.”
While abortion rates “won’t go down,” she said, the only thing that will change is that more pregnant people will die. But in an attempt to end on a less “hopeless” note, Bee urges viewers to continue fighting for reproductive rights: “Because if they take away our right to choose, fighting is the only option we have left.”
