Sandman on Netflix needs a Corinthian charm – even with those eyes

Although it’s best for him Monday most defining feature, Sand sellersCorinth has an undeniable style. Dressed in cream-white skin, sporty light hair and an ever-present pair of sunglasses, Nightmare creates a beautiful image, even in Neil Gaiman’s pages Sandman humor or as played by Boyd Holbrook in the Netflix adaptation. It’s a look together that you might miss him most Defining Trait: Mouth where his eyes should be.

A rogue nightmare, AWOL from the absence of Dreaming in Dream and serial killer on his way through the waking world, Corinthian is a jumble of menace and seduction. And that requires Holbrook to play the role in a way he’s never been asked to before.

Holbrook told Polygon: “I think there was a sexual relationship with Corinthian that I… never wanted to do, nor asked to do. “So it was definitely something uncomfortable at the start that I had to try to pursue.”

Holbrook noted that he and the rest of the cast were be instructed to make their respective characters their own and don’t fall into the trap of feeling too attached to how the character has to work. What is most important, instead, is that they “play the part of a person who is truly authentic.” Of course, with Corinth’s eyes being the stuff of nightmares, he must also try to find a way through it without the aid of the window of the soul.

“I really thought I would have to, or I [would feel] Holbrook said. “But Neil Gaiman and Allan Heinberg, our hosts, really put me at ease with that. Because instead of being an obstacle, it is a weapon.”

It’s a magnetism that easily escapes Holbrook’s performance, a natural comfort that still permeates every moment he appears on screen with menace. With his eyes somewhere behind his sunglasses, every act of kindness seems tinged with malice. He’s cool and placid probably precisely because he knows he’s untouchable in almost every respect.

“I think it’s basically going to paralyze anybody,” Holbrook said. “Once the glasses come off and you see the teeth for the eyes, I think it’s just going to be a shell-shock kind of person.”
