India’s Sania Mirza, who is in her final match at Wimbledon, and Mate Pavic advanced to the second round of mixed doubles with a tough win over David Vega Hernandez and Natela Dzalamidze on Friday. The Indo-Croatian duo won 6-4 3-6, 7-6 (3) in the first match.
Mirza, who announced her retirement at the end of this season, and her Czech teammate Lucie Hradecka had previously lost in the opening round of the women’s doubles.
The 35-year-old Indian girl won the women’s doubles title alongside Martina Hingis in 2015.
In a video uploaded on the Championships’ official Twitter, Mirza said she’s going to miss Wimbledon but it’s time to move on.
“There are things in life that take precedence over playing tennis matches and I’m at that stage now,” she said.
