Sask. Roughrider Jon Ryan and family make $200K donation to Regina Rams
Former NFLer and present Saskatchewan Roughriders punter Jon Ryan and his household unveiled a record-setting scholarship for the College of Regina Rams on Saturday.
Jon and his brother Steve are each Rams alumni and introduced the $200,000 legacy fund for this system within the title of their father, Bob.
It’s the largest scholarship donation in program historical past.
“It’s a very huge deal for my household. Clearly, my father made a big impact on this neighborhood. He beloved the Regina Rams as my brother and I each performed,” Jon advised reporters.
The Bob Ryan Scholarship will start this season with 5 $2,000 scholarships given out to Rams pupil athletes.
As a former pupil athlete himself, Jon remembers what it was prefer to be tight on money.
“Being a pupil athlete, we didn’t have time to work. You’d have to have the ability to go to high school, to work and to soccer, there simply wasn’t sufficient time,” he defined.
“Simply to have the ability to give just a little little bit of assist to a few of these gamers goes to go a great distance.”
Jon stated it’s necessary for his household and himself to provide again to the neighborhood by making this donation that has been years within the making.
“I’ve taken a lot from this neighborhood, I’ve taken a lot from this college and this workforce that there’s no method I can ever repay my debt and by doing issues just like the scholarship fund is simply one of many ways in which myself and my household attempt to make up for a few of these issues we’ve taken from this excellent place.”
