School resource worker credited with saving lives when shooting broke out in Olathe East


OLATHE, KS (KCTV) — A school resource worker is credited with saving lives in Friday’s shooting that left him and a school administrator injured.

According to police, the shooting happened in the administrative office of the high school building.

The school resource officer, who was shot, was called in to dispatch.

“I was shot.”

“I was shot inside the principal’s office.”

“I applied the tourniquet myself.”

“Three people confirmed to have been shot…including me.”

The three people shot were SRO, as well as a school administrator and a student as suspects in this case.

The suspect is in police custody.

Police said the student was contacted by management to be in the area. The subject of the conversation that led to the shooting is currently unknown.

All the victims were male, so we know the person who shot the manager was a male student.

Earlier this morning, the police told us the officer who was shot was talking to people in the hospital.

Overland Park Regional said two victims have been released from the hospital.

One person remains in critical condition.

“I am in the same boat as all of you and the parents in Olathe because of the shock of the incident,” said Olathe Police Department, Sgt. Joel Yeldell said. “But I was also grateful at the time dame reported that our SRO did its job and got injured because of it.”
